Baobabs and the Tsingys

The Avenue of the Baobabs
The Avenue of the Baobabs is a place where you can find the largest concentration of Baobabs (Adansonia grandidieri). This avenue is also where most people come to admire the sunset and its reddish reflections on the trunks of these mythical trees, also called “the roots of the sky.” Naturally spectacular because of the baobab population, the marshes and rice fields further beautify the area during the rainy season, especially when the marshes are covered with blooming water hyacinths.

The Tsingys of Bemaraha
The Tsingys appear as true limestone cathedrals. They form a network of cracks, crevices, and sharp limestone blocks shaped like blades or needles. The site allows visitors to fully appreciate the shapes and depths of the crevices and faults. Indeed, climbing and crossing pits via a suspension bridge lets you admire the network of joints, an impressively sized canyon, and a cave featuring various limestone formations. Vegetation thrives in the crevices and canyons, and the silence of the site is only broken by the melody of birdsong and the gentle rustle of the wind. From the observation point built at a height, one can admire the Tsingys and the surrounding plain stretching to the horizon’s edge.
